If you’ve ever been to a concert or most events, you’ll know that they use many different kinds of lights. The main ones are spot, hot stick, flood, fresnel, movers, and accent. In this post, we will go over spot and hotstick.
The spotlight is the most common and vital fixture. They are the main lighting for the stage and commonly use colored gels. These colored gels, as the name suggests, are gel sheets that are put in front of the light to change the color of the light. The spotlight draws the audience’s attention to a specific part of the stage; for example, a spotlight will lighten the lead vocal. These are the large lights hung from the ceiling. The shape of the light they produce can also be changed via the shutter blades. This allows the venues to get the desired shape from the light to match their stage. The spotlight is the most versatile and valuable light; this is why it is used in almost all modern venues.
A hotstick is a strip of high-brightness LED lights that can each output a different color. This allows you to have a specific color and feel on the stage. This feel can also be changed for each song. This helps separate each section or the event or concert. For example, you could switch the lights between each song to make each song more distinct. Having hotsticks is very useful, and they can be easily moved, making them a staple of traveling events and bands while also being very common in venues. Hotsticks have become an essential part of any stage and cemented into a must-have for any concert.
